WHAT TO DO IF A CROWN FALLS OUT

Anyone who has ever damaged a tooth or paid to have a “smile makeover” has probably had a fixed prostheses fitted by their dentist. That’s the technical term for crowns, caps, inlays, onlays, veneers, bridges, etc… Once fitted, these things should be pretty secure, but they can and do come loose. That’s where we can help!

Millions of crowns and such are fitted each year and while they typically last at least 5 years, the cements that bind them in place occasionally fail. No surprise given that they need to withstand changes in heat, pressure and all the twisting that chewing involves, not to mention the odd bit of impact trauma.

If your crown has come off, you’ve probably found yourself looking at an unsightly, possibly pointy stump, this is what dentists call a prep. It may be sore and ugly, but in this day and age of Covid-19, we’re sorry to say it does not constitute an emergency and you’ll still struggle to get an NHS appointment any time soon.

That’s why we’ve made Refit. Refit is a temporary dental cement, designed specifically for people to use themselves as part of our Dr Denti Home Use range. We get lots of search traffic for Refit around Bank Holidays like Easter and Christmas, probably as everyone is tucking into rich sticky foods or opening the odd bottle with their teeth. A problem that’s made worse when the poor person realises the dentist is closed for the bank holiday!

Dr Denti Refit temporary dental cement

Dr Denti Refit is dead simple to use and can have you back to your smiling self in minutes, here’s how:

1. Clean and dry your prostheses (crown, veneer, or what have you) and put it to one side.

2. Carefully open a Refit capsule, drip a couple drops of water onto the powder inside, then put the capsule back together and give it a good shake for 3 seconds.

3. Squeeze out the newly mixed cement onto the fitting side of your prostheses.

4. Put the prostheses back onto your tooth and adjust until it’s in the right place.

5. Carefully bite your teeth together to check the fit is ok.

If you’re unhappy with the new position, take it out and repeat the steps until it’s all good. We’ve even got an instructional video you can check out here, easy peasy!

Refit is a temporary cement, designed to keep your crown in place for up to 28 days. Plenty of time for you to book in with your dentist and have them fix you up with a more permanent solution.

If you have a fixed prostheses, don’t wait for it to come out. Pop out to your local chemist or store, grab a pack of Dr Denti Refit and keep it in your medicine cupboard. Trust us, you won’t want to be walking around with an exposed prep/stump any longer than you have to.

Your best bet is to buy a pack of Refit, keep it in the cupboard and be prepared for emergencies. The last thing you want is your crown coming off just before your big date, job interview or *insert awkward situation here*.
